The spirit

Post like you’d want to be sold to: truthfully. Real item, honest condition, fair price, your own gear. Treat people the way you’d treat someone at a group ride. That’s most of it.

What you can post

• Used (or new) cycling gear you own and can legally sell, for in-person handoff in the NYC area.
• Cycling-adjacent and untypical listings are welcome, too. A carpool seat to a race (split the gas), a race entry you can’t use, a spot at a training camp. If it serves NYC riders, it probably has a home here. Keep it cycling-related, not random clutter, and ask us if you’re unsure where it fits.
• Free giveaways are welcome and encouraged. If someone can still use it, it shouldn’t go to a landfill.
• Pedal-assist e-bikes and e-bike parts/accessories — as long as the bike and any battery are UL-certified (see the e-bike rule below).
• Shops and businesses can post, under the same rules as everyone else, and their listings say so. One rule is theirs alone: nothing a shop still sells new at the same price. In practice the item is used, from a past model year, an ex-demo or floor model, open box, or a return. Never current-season stock straight out of the box.
• Accurate photos of the actual item. A manufacturer/stock photo is allowed only to clarify the model, and only when clearly marked as not the actual item.
• A short video (up to 60 seconds) of the actual item is welcome and builds buyer trust. Shoot it yourself, and don’t upload a manufacturer or stock video.

What gets you removed

• Stolen goods. Zero tolerance. List the serial number on bikes and framesets, and expect buyers to check it. We act on credible theft reports.
• Counterfeit, fake, or misrepresented items, or hiding a known defect or safety recall.
• Scams, bait-and-switch, or fake listings — anything dishonest about the item, price, or availability.
• Off-topic or spam — items unrelated to cycling, duplicates, or advertising. Keep your own phone and email out of the listing text, too: the contact button keeps them off the public page, so bots can’t grab them and hit you with spam and scam texts. Paste them into the listing and you lose that protection.
• Illegal items, weapons, or anything you don’t have the right to sell.
• Uncertified e-bikes or batteries. NYC Local Law 39 requires e-bikes, e-scooters, and their lithium-ion batteries sold in the city to be UL-certified (UL 2849, UL 2272, and UL 2271 respectively). An uncertified or “no-name” battery can’t legally be sold. The law exists to reduce lithium-battery fire risk.
• Hate, harassment, discrimination, politics, or other off-topic noise. This is a place to pass on gear, not a soapbox.

Staying safe

• Meet in public — a busy spot, a group ride, a shop.
• Inspect before you pay, and never pay before the item is in your hands.
• Check the serial against Bike Index, Project 529, or BikeRegister before buying a bike.
• Trust your gut. If something feels off, walk away and report it.

Reporting & enforcement

Every listing has a Report link — use it. We review reports and may remove listings or block users. We have the final say and may act with or without a report to keep the site clean. There’s no guaranteed appeal. The goal is a place both buyers and sellers can trust.
